The National President of the Council of Maritime Truck Unions and Associations (COMTUA), Prince Adeyinka Aroyewun has hailed the management of Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) on the recent redeployment of port managers in the Authority, saying “This is a step in the right direction, and we are happy that the management is taking bold steps to improve the efficiency of the ports.”
In a letter addressed to the Managing Director of NPA and copied to Business Hilights in Lagos, COMTUA President said “However, we are concerned about the deployment of individuals to ports where they are not familiar, while men with familiarity and experience of such places are either posted out or not considered to manage the terminals where they have experience. This raises questions about the criteria used in the deployment of port managers.
“We strongly advise that merit is given utmost attention in the deployment of port managers. Those with experience and familiarity with a particular port should be given the opportunity to manage it.
“This will not only improve efficiency but also ensure that the ports are run by competent individuals who understand the peculiarities of each port.
Prince Aroyewun further averred that “We believe that the Nigerian Ports Authority can achieve its objectives if the right people are placed in the right positions. We, therefore, urge you to take our concerns seriously and ensure that merit is given utmost consideration in the deployment of port managers.”
