…Says it would have been worst if drains were uncleared
Following torrential downpour that terrorized all parts of Lagos State today, Wednesday, July 3, 2024, every part of the state including the massive Lagos Trade Fair complex were taken over by floods.
Speaking to Business Hilights in an interview, the chairman of Trade Fair Stakeholders Association (TFSA), an umbrella body for all the business associations in the complex, Chief Eric Ilechukwu (Akunwafor Umuoji), said “Due to the fact that every association is highly affected, we have scheduled an emergency meeting with the Trade Fair management tomorrow, Thursday to deliberate on how to abate the flood menace going forward.”
“I have already sent meeting notices to all stakeholders and the management board is aware. So, we will join ideas and work out a strategic solution to the flooding challenge.
According to him, “We are happy that we currently have a listening ED/CEO in the person of Barr. Vera Ndanusa. All of us will come up with the best solution for the problem and other issues bordering the complex tomorrow.
Chief Ilechukwu added that “If not for the initial efforts of the management in clearing the blocked drains, the situation would have been worst. So, we will try to improve on the already done works to tame further flooding in the complex in the meeting.
Whereas efforts to contact ASPMDA President on phone failed, a close assistant confided in our correspondent that ASPMDA President, Hon. Ngozi Emechebe, was seen personally busy in the rains, directing affairs on combating the flood in the plaza.
Also speaking, President of Africa Tyre Village, Alhaji Isah Akanbi Mohammed decried the high level of flooding saying many could not even come to market even as those that made it earlier are trying their best in abating the flooding.
In his views, the President of Mandilas United, Evang. Emma Ezeani said due to the location of his market, not much was affected even though some parts experienced the flooding.
Efforts to reach the president of BBA failed as his phone was not ringing as at press time.
