The Association of Nigerian Tyre Marketers (ANTM), owners of Africa Tyre Village (ATV), Lagos International Trade Fair complex, is currently working on a plan to partner with the Standard Organisation of Nigeria (SON) to lure foreign tyre producers into building factories in Nigeria.
Speaking to Business Hilights in an exclusive interview, President of ANTM, Alhaji Issah Akanbi Mohammed, revealed that during a recent visit to the new Director General of SON, Mr. Ifeanyi Okeke, he assured us of support and collaboration with the federal agency in any effort to bring into the country any genuine tyre manufacturer to set up factory.
He noted that the DG was happy on the way and manner ATV is dealing on genuine tyres and accessories, thus helping in building confidence on wheels for Nigerians.
According to Alhaji Mohammed, attracting a tyre manufacturer will among other things create more jobs for Nigerians, raise the value of Naira, raise availability of genuine tyres and also grow the economy.
He said his association will continue to talk with SON and any foreign tyre producer willing to buy into the deal so that Nigeria will once again, join the league of economies that manufacture tyres in the world.
Recall that Dunlop and Michelin were foremost tyre manufacturers who exited the country few years ago.
