In what will go down in the history of burnt market reconstruction, the rebuilding of burnt Akere Auto Spare parts market in Ajegunle will be the fastest in response time by any government in Lagos State.
This is coming on the fact that the Lagos State Government on Wednesday, March 15, 2023, flagged off the reconstruction of Akere market gutted by politically motivated inferno following the loss of presidential election in Lagos State by the former Governor of the State, Bola Tinubu.
The fact of the matter was that political party hoodlums felt that Igbos doing business in the market voted for another party other than the party of the former governor and therefore vented their anger by burning the market after killing the night guard.
But in a swift response, whereas the Labour Party Guber candidate, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivor (GRV) visited the day of the fire and consoled the victims with N15m donation, the state governor and also a candidate of the Saturday election, Mr. Babjide Sanwo-Olu, also visited same day and announced that the market reconstruction will begin in less than one week.
Today, Wednesday, march 15, the governor fulfilled the reconstruction pledge by not only flagging construction activities, but also donated N100m to the affected traders.
Akere Motor Parts Market, Olodi Apapa, recently caught fire with goods worth millions of naira lost to the midnight inferno.
