The Seaport Terminal Operators Association of Nigeria (STOAN) has called on the Federal Government to effectively work out a settlement plan for all workers affected by the port concessions.
Speaking through her representative at the 34th Maritime Reporters Association of Nigeria (MARAN) Anniversary/ Awards on Friday in Lagos with the theme: “16 Years of Port Concession: The Pains and the Gains”; Dr. Bolaji Akinola, the lead body averred that the pain of the concession was the fact many people lost their jobs.
Akinola said that the pains should be ameliorated by the Federal Government and whatever is due to them should be given to them.
“There are also gains in human angel as before the concession dockworkers were casual workers and they go home with N1,500 but this has changed.
“To reap the benefits of the concession, ancillary challenges such as clearing processes, infrastructure issues should be addressed,” Akinola said.
