Africa’s leading women have hailed the commended CWG’s decision, the leading tech solutions provider in West Africa, to encourage and promote gender equality in the Information Tech industry.
These thought leaders, who conversed on panel sessions at the recently concluded virtual conference, with the theme ‘Choose to Challenge’, which was organized by CWG to celebrate women the International Women Day, unanimously agreed that CWG has empowered more women in Nigeria than any other organization by giving them roles to head different departments and units.
For Olawunmi Oni-Buraimoh, PhD. Senior Lecturer, English Department, Faculty of Arts at the Lagos State University, CWG Plc has shown that women can challenge when giving the necessary needed support, stressing that from the available records, the company has remained one of the advocates of women empowerment and has empowered them in several ways.
While challenging women to always break barriers to compete in the digital world, Mrs. Oni-Buraimoh urged women to be bold to new tasks, emphasizing that the only constant thing is change.
“As women, we must be bold to take on new tasks. We must devise means to do things in a new way because we cannot lag as women,” she charged.
She also advised CWG to spread its tentacles to the academic in terms of digital offerings as it has done for the microfinance and other sectors of the Nigerian economy.
Also speaking, the Founder/Chief Executive Officer of HerVest Limited, Solape Akinpelu, urged women to always exhibit a growth mindset, which she believes is innate among African women, especially when given a boost like CWG has done to several women in Nigeria.
Specifically, she argued that the Covid-19 pandemic has inadvertently revived and boosted the hidden energy in most women and have reinvented themselves in doing new things, which they couldn’t do ordinarily.
“The growth trend that the Covid-19 Pandemic has given us is that we have all gone digital and have become problem solvers in all areas of our lives,” she stated.
Other women across other industries who were on board to dissect issues that concern women in Nigeria and across the African continent include Hafsat Abiola-Costello, President of Women in Africa Initiative; Foluso Gbadamosi, Executive Director, JA Nigeria; and Kate Henshaw, Award-winning Nigerian Actress / Producer.
The International Women’s Day Virtual Conference with the theme ‘Choose to Challenge’, was hosted by CWG Plc, a Pan-African Tech Company, in an attempt to take female leadership to a whole new level to break new frontiers in technology, entertainment, finance and other sectors of the economy.
