Just in: 28 houses, 39 vehicles, 5 deaths, many injured in Lagos pipeline fire
The Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Mele Kyari, in Lagos Monday, described late night to early morning pipeline fire in Ilepo, Ekoro, Abule Egba and Alimosho area of Lagos State as unfortunate.
Whereas preliminary investigation revealed that the inferno was as a result of pipeline vandals who burst one of the oil pipelines in the area to siphon products, NNPC boss decried how residents within the highly populated area could keep clam while such economic and life threatening illegal activities continue to thrive.
He however, assured on continued efforts of the Nigerian Navy and sister security outfits in taming the economic sabotage in the region.
Details gathered by Business Hilights during the visit of NNPC chief on Monday showed that whereas five lives were lost, about 28 houses were razed even as 39 vehicles including tankers used by the vandals were all burnt.
Also, there are several number of fire victims currently in several hospitals attending to treatments.
Business Hilights recalls that incidences of pipeline fire had been regular occurrences within the vicinity and along the pipeline route which runs from Atlas Cove, Mossimi, Alimosho area up to Ilorin, in Kwara State.
