Barely less than one week after the continental football body, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) ran the draws for the 2019 Nations Cup finals in Egypt, emeritus Super Eagles midfield maestro and former captain of the national team, Delta State-born Austin Jay Jay Okocha, has been declared wanted by Justice Adedayo Akintoye of the Lagos High Lagos, Igbosere.
The jurist handed down the renewed bench warrant for the arrest of the Brand Ambassador of BetKing for alleged tax evasion.
Business Hilights gathered that the court made the order following Okocha’s alleged failure to settle a 2017 income tax evasion case brought against him by the Lagos State Government.
It would be recalled that the Court had on January 29, this year, made the first order in ruling to a substantive application by the Lagos State Ministry of Justice.
According to the counsel to the State, “Jay Jay Okocha had also failed to appear in court since 2017 when the case was filed against him.”
Efforts to reach the Super Eagles former player failed at press time.
Business Hilights recalls that Jay Jay Okocha had joined some of his contemporaries’ including his teammates like Victor Ikpeba who promotes BetNaija and former ace goalkeeper, Peter Rufai in the football betting brand promotion space since recently.
Before his venture, he had lost fortunes in the failed Societie Generale Bank in which the Federal Government under former President Olusegun Obasanjo intervened for his recovery of trapped investment fund.
