…PDP slashes rates, presidency ₦12m

The recent publication of amounts to be paid for access to nomination forms by any member of All Progressive Congress (APC) wishing to vie for any position has continued to elicit mixed reactions.
According to the released costs, State House of Assembly – ₦1.1 Million; House of Rep – ₦3.8 Million; Senate – ₦8.5 Million; Governor – ₦22.5 Million; and Presidency – ₦55:Million.
A number political analysts that looked at the costs argued that the prices have made nonsense of the recently assented ‘NOT TOO YOUNG TO RUN’ law.
They argued that with the respective amounts, the ruling party has technically told the young to withdraw political interest because even if they were able to gather the money for the form, chances of having enough to run campaign are slim.
Experts say the best way to demonstrate truly signing the law as a ruling party would have been to crash prices of the nomination forms.
Besides, a group of guber aspirants led by a Benue contestant have expressed anger on the amount slated for each position, saying the unprecedented rise in the cost casts doubt on the fight against corruption being championed by the party.
@OfficialPDPNig, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) listed the following rates for expression of interest for elective positions.
House of Assembly – ₦600,000, House of Rep – ₦1.5m, Senate – ₦3.5m, Governorship – ₦6m and presidency, President – ₦12m.
