Lafarge Africa Plc on Tuesday June 5, joined other environment-friendly corporate citizens across the world to mark the 2018 World Environment Day (WED) with special call on residents to beware of the dangers of plastic pollution especially for aquatic life in the country.
According to the Director of Communication Public Affairs and Sustainable Development at Lafarge, Mrs. Folashade Ambrose-Medebem, “As individuals, we can contribute our quota to beating the plastic pollution by re-using our plastics rather than dumping them on the streets or throwing them out of the windows of our cars as we often do. If you cannot re-use, dispose your plastics properly”.
Continuing, she pleaded with Lagosians to make individual commitments to properly dispose plastics and recycle them. She said Lafarge Africa Plc is willing to contribute our quota by way of co-processing of plastic wastes for our common good
Earlier in his presentation on the dangers posed by plastics in the world, Lafarge Africa Plc Environment Manager, John Nya said “3.6 percent of the 500 billion tonnes of plastic bags consumed in the world end up in the oceans”.
In their comments, Alhaja Lutifat Ojikutu, the Iyaloja General, Lagos Island East and Alhaja Mojisola Dangel, the Vice Iyaloja, Lagos Island West urged all the market men and women present at the event to take the message of proper plastic disposal to their colleagues in the markets and at home. The market leaders however, promised to continue maintaining a high standard of cleanliness in their respective the markets of Lagos Island and beyond.
