How PZ Cussons Plc’s Mamador vegetable oil brushed competitors’ aside to remain lead

One of the group’s leading products that within a short period of introduction, beaten its peers in the market is Mamador vegetable oil, a product of one of the sister companies; PZ Wilmer.
In an interview with the General Manager, External and Regulatory Affairs at PZ Cussons, Mr. Tahir Mohammed, he explained that PZ Wilmer has successfully leveraged two strong brands (Mamador and Devon King’s) to tap into the needs of both the premium and economy consumers.
He said PZW is deepening investments in brand equity, expansion of distribution both in geographies and channels and more especially in growing efforts to achieve backward integration in vegetable oil production.
According to him, Devon King’s was previously imported, but now, due to the company’s diversification drive and in keying into the federal government local content development and programme, the company went into partnership with Wilmer and today, the vegetable oil products can be said to be Nigerian made.
“We currently completed a mega vegetable oil refinery in Ikorodu and the production lines are doing well. We just recently opened a modern oil milling facility to start crushing raw materials for the production of vegetable oil.
“What we are doing at PZ is vegetable oil business from end to end; that is from planting the hybrid palm fruits to nurturing them to maturity and harvesting and moving them to the mills and coming out with world class vegetable oil that is good for the body and economy.
“Currently we have a massive palm oil plantation in South South and from there we get our lead raw material for the production of the vegetable oil.
In the market, a lot of users of the Mamador and Devon King’s products who shared their user experience with Business Hilights correspondents said the products quality is unbeatable because of their free cholesterol content and prices which are very affordable.
