Emerging indications in Imo State’s All Progressive Congress (APC) party activities ahead of 2019 elections are showing dangerous signals of losing the state after all. Currently, Imo is the only APC State, East of the Niger.
This stemmed from a vote of no confidence passed by party stakeholders over what they described as gazette plan by the governor to avoid conducting a credible primary so as to ensure that his son-in-law, Mr. Uche Nwosu will emerge as party’s governorship candidate come 2019 elections.
The stakeholders’ had already met with the Chief John Odigie-Oyegun-led national working committee of the party at the party headquarters in Abuja, expressing the fear that the APC might lose Imo State if Okorocha is allowed to have his unpopular way in the matter.
Business Hilights recalls that a group in the same ruling party in the state had given the Governor, a 21 day ultimatum to reverse the plot of handing his son-in-law the ticket, saying the idea is analogue and cannot stand in the state.
Members of the aggrieved party followers in Imo State that met the NWC include 16 local council chairmen of the Party, Senator Benjamin Uwajumogu, and Okey Okoro.
The Imo APC members also alleged that Okorocha’s unpopular policies like imposition of taxes on adults in autonomous communities, destruction of markets, and confiscation of lands without compensating the landowners have alienated the Party from the electorates in the state.
