The contractor handling the repair of burnt Festac Link Bridge, China Civil Engineering and Construction Company (CCECC) in Festac Town, Amuwo-Odofin local government area of Lagos State appeared to have returned on site.
Investigations by Business Hilights revealed that even though the company was immediately drafted in to resurface and improve the tensile force of the bridge which got burnt on Tuesday, December 12, 2017, abandoned the site less than two weeks after mobilizing to the site for works.
Though officials of the company who spoke to our correspondent on Thursday in Festac said they are back to deliver the work in record time, they were economical with words on why the company abandoned the site for almost three months.
However, a source confided on our reporter that “Issues bordering on funding and extent of work needed on the bridge were part of the reasons for the delay”.
It would be recalled that on Tuesday, December 12, last year, a tanker carrying diesel that was ascending the bridge, lost control and just as it was attempting to roll back, it hit following vehicles and burst out in flames.
Since that day, traffic on the affected lane of the road was restricted and diverted to using the next lane which had continued to remain a hardship for Festac residents and businesses on the axis.
At the site on Thursday, our correspondent observed that efforts are being made to scrap off burnt surfaces with the aim of re-flooring it and asphalting as soon as possible.
None of the engineers’ onsite was willing to reveal the delivery date of the repair works.
