Growing rice revolution in parts of the country has landed in Cross River as the State Government has unveiled Ayade Premium Rice locally produced in the state.
The state Governor, Prof Ben Ayade during the launch, said “The local rice production will help to reduce the nation’s import of rice as well as ensure food security in the country and encouraged people of the state to key into farming in order to diversify the economy”.
He was quick to caution the federal government not to embarrass states’ investments in rice production with poor control of rice smuggling.
In attendance at the unveiling ceremony were members of the state House of Assembly and National Assembly, the State’s executive council and government officials.
Business Hilights gathered that the key factor that drove the productivity cannot be unconnected with keying into the Central Bank of Nigeria’s anchor borrowers scheme (ABS) to increase local rice farming and packaging.
It would recalled that Lagos and Kebbi States fired the first shot of success as their joint venture lead to the production of Lake Rice currently holding sway across Lagos markets.
