NPA commissions Port workers canteen in Apapa, says others coming soon

The leadership of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), on Tuesday commissioned Port Workers’ Canteen to drive ease of doing business at the premier Port, the Apapa Port Complex.

Speaking during the occasion, the Managing Director, Hadiza Bala Usman restated Management commitment to the success of the Twenty-Four hour operations at the Ports, adding that the decision to open the canteen is informed by the fact that eating healthy food in a healthy environment will guarantee healthy workforce which will engender higher productivity by the workforce.

Represented by the Executive Director, Marine and Operations, Dr. Sekonte Davies, the MD further noted that the canteen will further stimulate greater efficient services at the Ports by way of ensuring that the workforce are energized and made to be better alert, creative and proactive to render effective customer service delivery.

Earlier in her welcome address, the Port Manager, Hajia Aisha Ibrahim said “Apapa Port is chosen as the pilot scheme for the canteen because of its prime position among Lagos Ports and that the canteen will ensure a safer environment for the Port as only certified and registered food vendors will be allowed to operate in the canteen”.

She assured all Stakeholders that the rates of meals in the canteen would be affordable and urged them to see themselves as partners in progress in ensuring the success of twenty-four Ports operations of the Federal Government.

The representative of the General Manager, Medical, Dr. C. Nwokolo told the gathering the Medical Department has conducted a thorough examination for the food vendors, therefore Port workers have nothing to fear in terms of the Health status of the variety of meals.

Highlight of the occasion which was well attended by Stakeholders in the Industry, was the cutting of the tape to symbolize the commissioning of the canteen by the Executive Director, Marine and Operations.
