Glo’s Professor Johnbull takes a look at ills of get-rich-quick syndrome
Globacom’s sponsored soup opera and soar-away TV drama series, Professor Johnbull, will in the next edition bring to viewers, observed dangers of increasing tendency of the youths to seek short-cut to wealth.
The programme tries to illustrate the link between this social malady and many challenges besetting the nation, especially, indiscipline and crime.
Otherwise, the latest episode of Professor Johnbull is entitled Get Rich Quick, and depicts the various ways that the youths side-step long-held traditions and societal mores in their inordinate desire for wealth.
A statement issued on Monday and made available to Business Hilights in Lagos said “Such illicit avenues to make money include digging up portions of a road by youths who turn around to make a show of repairing the same road, so that motorists and other road users can give them money”.
“The episode draws a parallel between happiness and material acquisition, indicating that being wealthy is not the same thing as being happy.
According to the set, ‘Get Rich Quick’ revolves around the philanderer; Flash (Stephen Odimgbe), who in conjunction with Samson (Ogus Baba) and the perpetual student, Ilodibe Macachukwu, goes into gambling in order to make extra money.
Glo averred that viewers will see their attempt to lure Jeroboam (Osita Iheme), a.k.a Boam, the new member of Professor Johnbull’s household, to give up for gambling, the money given to him to buy ‘nkwobi’ for his master. Viewers would be interested to see how this turns out.
Also, Samson, (Ogus Baba) will go through a fierce furnace as result of a bad gambling binge. Viewers would be interested to know how he survives the ordeal.
Get rich quick airs on Tuesday at 8.30. p.m. on NTA Network, NTA International on DSTV Channel 251 and NTA on StarTimes. Repeat broadcast of Get Rich Quick will be aired on the same channels at 8.30 p.m on Friday.
