In line with its official regulation in monitoring compliance to broadcast codes, the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC), has released the list of broadcasting stations that have been sanctioned for various breaches in contravention of the provisions of the Nigeria Broadcasting Code in the third quarter of 2017.
Details show that Lagos based Bond FM lead with highest fine of N499,000 for ;Unverifiable claims’ as Radio Continental, and Family Love FM in Port Harcourt, were fined N200,000 each for ‘Use of Indecent Musicals’ and “Use of hate Speech’ respectively.
In a statement issued on Tuesday in Abuja and emailed to Business Hilights, the Commission noted that “The contraventions include breaches of the rules on hateful speech, vulgar lyrics and unverifiable claims and all the erring stations have been fined according to the provisions of the Nigeria Broadcasting Code”.
The terse statement signed by Head, Public Affairs, Mrs. Maimuna Jimada, however, reminded broadcasters that they have a duty to promote the socio-economic well-being of the Nigerian state and abide strictly by the provisions of the Nigeria Broadcasting Code or face sanctions.
