Delta3 International, global leading Informational Security Advisory Company, has disclosed that prevalence of cyber attacks in Africa may have doubled this year when compared to last year’s losses.
Speaking weekend in Ghana, Mr. Dele Aden, the Managing Director of Delta3 International, revealed that Africa, as a whole, lost $2 billion to cyber-attacks in 2016, out of which Ghana lost a total of $50 million within the period under review.
Some of the key issues tackled during the workshop include Introduction to Data and Information Security, Cyber Security Fundamentals, Cyber Security Breaches, Types of Cyber Attacks, Mobile Protection, Social Network Security, Email Security and Critical Cyber Threats.
Explaining more industry critical issues on the sidelines of the Cyber Security Awareness Workshop in Accra, Aden said with the impacts of recent ramson-malwares attacks that rocked parts of the world, especially the industrial sector and government systems, Africa may lose this year, more than what it lost to cyber attacks in 2016.
Reports showed that more mega African businesses suffered financial and systems loses during all the global attacks because many systems lacked needed anti-cyber attacks defense system.
According to Delta3 International boss, the Ghanaian workshop was to enable participants to learn how to safely protect themselves and their organisations from security risks and possible cyber-attacks.
The training dealt more on identifying many of the common risks associated with using computers, mobile devices and the internet on issues of global cyber attacks, hinting that whereas employees were a company’s greatest asset, they could also be its greatest security risk.
Aden explained that “To successfully protect information assets, employees at every level – from the top down – need a basic understanding of the current threat landscape, as well as their respective responsibilities in protecting their organisations’ information assets”.
Aden disclosed that currently, Ghanaian businesses were still grappling with the issues of cyber security and following the increases in cyber-crimes and cyber security breach, Delta3 International decided to organise the series workshops to create awareness.
He noted that there were several current attacks and hacks, so the workshop would equip participants with the necessary knowledge on how best to enhance cyber security and protect corporate data within their various organisations.
While calling on business owners and individuals to seek knowledge and engage experts on issues concerning cyber security and empower their staff, Aden urged the public to be careful in downloading software onto their mobile phones as they might be exposing information to hackers.
