Aero Contractors diversifies, opens aircraft maintenance centre in Lagos

Aero Contractors, leading indigenous airline has not only opened maintenance centre for aircrafts in Nigeria, but has secured to carry out C-Check maintenance on all Boeing 737- Classics aircraft at its facilities at the airport.

This development, according to experts will among other things, save $48 million annually by indigenous airlines on the maintenance of their respective aircraft locally.

Explaining more during an interactive session with journalists at the Murtala Muhammed Airport (MMA), in Lagos, the Managing Director, Capt. Ado Sanusi, said “Currently, local carriers expend at least $1.8 million on the C-Check maintenance of their aircraft in Europe and America regularly, but with the approval of C-check maintenance given to Aero Contractors by the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), the cost could now domicile in Nigeria”.

There are at least 24 B737 – classics aircraft in the fleet of local airlines in the country.

Sanusi added that its Aircraft Maintenance Organisation (AMO) has been upgraded to international specification and standards to handle maintenance of aircrafts.

He revealed that apart from the indigenous airlines that would benefit from the maintenance facilities, other airlines on the continent, especially in the West African sub-region, would benefit from the facilities.

Bto deepen service capability, it would be recalled that Aero had signed a Memorandum of Understanding ( MoU) with  Europe-based engineering firm, AJ Waters ; South African Technik ; Ethiopian Airlines, for pooling of expertise and tools to enable them carry out C- check on many aircraft at the facility in Lagos.

Sanusi disclosed further that the upgrade of the centre was possible because Aero had invested over N60 million on the expansion of the hangar to enable it handle comprehensive work on aircraft.
