Only 8 out of 32 airlines recorded no case of delayed, missing baggage in H1 2017
Flight statistics bumped upon by Business Hilights on Monday have revealed that out of 32 local and international airlines that operated in Nigeria during the first half of 2017 ending June, only eight recorded no single case of either missing or delayed baggage with their passengers.
According to the figures, operators like Aero Contractors, Azman Air, Comair-Co, Max Air, Mid Africa, Saudi Air, Sudan Airways had no issues with passengers’ luggage within the period under review.
However, major culprits include African World Airline, Air Cote D’Ivoire, Air France, Arik Air, Asky, British Airways, Cronos Air, Delta Air Lines, Egypt Air, Emirates, Ethiopian Airlines and Etihad Airways.
Others are Kenya Airways, KLM, Lufthansa, Meridiana, Med-View, Middle East, Qatar Airways, Royal Air Maroc, Rwandair, South African Airways, Turkish Air and Virgin Atlantic Airways.
The document further showed on individual airlines, number of reported cases of missing and delayed baggage.
Whereas Kenyan Airways recorded 27 missing luggage; KLM had 197 with Lufthansa recording 115.
Med-View had 24 cases within the period just as Qatar Airways recorded 129, leaving Royal Air Maroc at 181 and Rwandair, 106.
However, South African Airways, led the pack with 382 as the Turkish Airways settled for 81.
Also, Virgin Atlantic Airways had 118 delayed or missing baggage within the first half of 2017.
The document also revealed that about 2,966 air travellers’ luggage was either missing or delayed on arrival.
Besides, there were clear indications of drop in volume of traffic within the first six months of 2017 in Nigeria even as 27,866 flights were operated both on the local and international scenes in Nigeria between January and June, 2017.
