Tincan Customs halts alerts, re-examination of dully released containers at exit points

As part of its drive to deepen ease of doing business and trade facilitation, the authorities at Tin Can Island Customs Command has relaxed subjecting consignments dully released at any of the terminal to ‘alert’ and cross examination by the Customs Investigation Unit (CIU) of the command at the exit points.

This was confirmed in a telephone interview by the Public Relations Officer of the Tin Can Customs; Mr. Uche Ejesieme, on Monday.

He told Business Hilights that “The emphasis is on being dully released at any terminal; the container or consignment shall not be subject to alert or cross examination at the exit points from the CIU”.

According to him, the reform is part of new ideas to drive the recent Presidential Order on ease of doing business at ports.

The command therefore enjoined all clearing agents and freight forwarders to always comply with correct declaration of their cargoes and always abide by the circular issued on the suspension of the ‘alert’ and cross examination by the Customs Investigation Unit (CIU) of the command.
