Around the early hours of Wednesday, precisely 5.00AM, yet to be identified armed gunmen arrived the narrow street hosting the headquarters of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), office on Wuse Zone 7, Abuja.
The heavily armed bandits who failed to gain access on arrival resorted to shooting and damaging parked cars both outside and within the fortified compound.
On observing successful repel by station guards, they dropped death threat note for one named top investigative officer (Ishaku Sharu) and escaped.
Their target is said to be heading the Foreign Exchange Malpractices Fraud Section is in charge of corruption investigation involving several politically exposed persons and retired military brass hats.
The attack on the Zone 7 office which houses the Commission’s AMCON Desk, Procurement Fraud and Foreign Exchange Malpractices Sections, is coming few weeks after another investigator, Austin Okwor was shot and wounded by unknown assailants in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
A statement by the Commission’s spokesman, Wilson Uwajare revealed that the latest incident has already been reported to the police for investigation, saying minimal damages were done to vehicles as no person was hit or injured.
