Possibly drawing lessons from the recent building collapse in Lagos Island traced to additional weight from new roof-top telecom mast, Mr. Babajide Odekunle, General Manager of the Lagos State Infrastructure Maintenance and Regulatory Agency (LASIMRA), has inaugurated a zero-tolerance Task Force to monitor the state.
Part of the job of the group will include combing the length and breadth of Lagos Island and identify all illegal and non-compliant rooftop masts or those that could compromise the structural integrity of buildings on which they are installed.
He noted that the new idea was to forestall a repeat of what happened on Massey Street, Lagos Island last week, saying the exercise became highly necessary to protect lives and property of residents.
According to him, any non-compliant rooftop mast and those erected on perceived defective buildings with suspicious structural integrity would be removed, adding that the appropriate government agency would take further action on identified defective buildings.
