Tin Can Customs rakes in N130bn in 6 months, says feat within target range
The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Tin-Can Island Command, Lagos, has generated N130 billion between January and June, 2017 and noted that the haul is within the range of half year target.
In a telephone interview, the Public Relations Officer of the command, Mr. Uche Ejesieme, averred that the command met set target within the period under review, explaining that the breakdown indicated that whereas it generated N19.83 billion in January, it made a revenue of N21 billion in February, N20.95 billion in March and N20.31 billion in April.
According to him, May and June saw collected N23.87 billion and N23.97 billion respectively.
Giving more insights, Ejesieme recalled that the feat was achieved based on the command’s zero tolerance for false declaration or other infractions.
Key motivator for the giant stride cannot be unconnected with what he described as the prevailing good welfare package put in place by the management for officers and men of the command.
He said “The welfare package include a well-equipped clinic, ICT centre with 30 work stations fully networked for training and capacity building of officers and other stakeholders”.
“The Customs Area Controller in charge of the command, Comptroller Yusuf Bashar, has said that all areas of revenue leakages will be identified and blocked.
In his further submission, the PRO added that “The controller has warned that any attempt by an importer and or his agent to circumvent the process will be dealt with according to the extant laws and Customs regulation”.
