Outrage in Eko Disco controlled part of Lagos as consumers describe latest bill craziest
Confusion is now trailing latest electricity bills distributed by the Eko Distribution Company (Eko Disco) between Friday and Saturday in parts of Lagos as many of households and companies who got the bills vented anger, describing it as the craziest.
Some households who spoke to our correspondent between Friday and weekend on cases of crazy bills said time has come when they will take their destinies in their hands as far as public power is concerned.
A woman who pleaded anonymity in Satellite Town said “Imagine, I have been paying N2,500 since last year until they increased it N5,000 in March this only to jump to N17,000 in June. It cannot work again”.
“I have a working old meter and nobody from their office has come to read it in the last two or four year. All I have been getting is estimated bills. It has to stop now. Its either they give me prepaid meter or they come and read my meter here before I can pay again.
Another resident who lives in a three bedroom flat complained the same fate, saying “the latest bill is the worst in the history of electricity bill and I cannot pay it because I do not operate an industry in my house.
However, when Business Hilights cornered one of the top officials in charge of billing, under anonymity he said “Since the new owners, they are in the habit of jerking up the bills every month and when we tell them that this is too bad, they will query and sack you.
“Let me tell you, until government does something strategic, our Ogas are ready to dry up Nigerians. Again, let me tell you, they are not ready to invest anything. All they are looking for is money! Money!! Money!!!.
Continuing, the official said “We work for them, but truly speaking, what they are doing is evil and they are not ready to listen to even us working for them on what people are complaining”.
