Just in: Confusion trials exact number of freed Chibok Girls by Boko Haram; 82 or 62?
Whereas Sahara Reporters claims it exclusively obtained information that the Islamist terrorist group, Boko Haram, has released of a batch of more than 80 kidnapped Chibok high school girls who were abducted in mid-April 2014, Aljazeera TV said it was actually 62.
According to the source, the release of the 80 abducted school girls came after further negotiations between the Islamist group and the Muhammadu administration. The source he was not in a position to disclose the terms of an agreement that led to today’s mass release of the Chibok school girls.
Sahara Reporters said “Our source revealed that 82 girls who just regained their freedom are currently in Banki town in Borno State awaiting airlift to an unknown destination”.
But leading Arabic TV Station, Aljazeera said in a late night analysis that it was only 62 but agreed that initial report said 82.
The TV station added that indeed the Nigerian government had been negotiating on the matter for months, but the sect had insisted on exchange of their arrested commanders or a rebate for complete release of the girls.
Observers say it is believed that once the girls are secured in a new location, they would be debriefed, taken to psychological and medical test before reuniting them with their families and folks.
However, an official statement from the government is still being expected so as to make the final clarification.
