About 253 Nigerians have been repatriated from Libya. They arrived at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja, aboard an airbus belonging to Libyan Air, touched down at the airport around 6.45pm on Tuesday.
Whereas the deportees were assisted back into the country through the intervention of the International Organisation for Migration (IOM), Business Hilights gathered that officials of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) provided them with food and money for transportation back to their different destinations after they were profiled by immigration officers.
NEMA image maker in the South West zone, Ibrahim Farinloye, said while 148 of the returnees were females, 105 were males.
According to him, “The assisted voluntary returnees arrived in the country around 6.45pm on Tuesday aboard an airbus belonging to the Libyan Air”.
“A total of 253 people were received by NEMA officials. Of the number were 140 adult females, four female children, and four female infants. There were 102 male adults, two male children and one male infant,” Farinloye said.
In the last two months over 2,000 Nigerians had been deported from Europe and several African countries and most of them were on criminal and humanitarian grounds.
