*Abuja Runway ready for use from Wednesday, April 19, 2017 after six weeks reconstruction works by Julius Berger Nigeria Plc.
Local airlines on Monday evening announced their resumption of flights in and out of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport (NAIA), Abuja starting from Wednesday, April 19 following completion of the rehabilitation of the runway.
This is coming as the Director-General of Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), Mr Usman Muktar, disclosed that the airport runway is ready for operation and can be opened on Wednesday.
Explaining this while conducting newsmen during an inspection of the airport’s runway on earlier on Monday in Abuja, he recalled the airport was closed on March 8 for six weeks to enable rehabilitation of its 3.6 kilometres runway to be carried out.
In the lead include Air Peace and Medview. Already, several foreign airlines who put paid to their rejection of Kaduna International Airport (KIA) have already resumed bookings ahead of Wednesday resumption.
Statements issued Monday by the duo Air Peace and Medview showed that their normal flights schedules in and out of Abuja have been restored, meaning that they are ready to quit KIA.
Just as the Chief Operating Officer/Accountable Manager (COO/AM) of Medview, Engineer Lookman Animashaun, said the airline will commence Abuja with six daily flights to the nation’s capital, Air Peace’s Corporate Communications Manager, Mr. Chris Iwarah commended air travellers for keeping faith with the airline, saying all Abuja flight schedule are restored effective Wednesday.
All domestic airlines had on March 9, 2019 diverted flights to Kaduna following the closure of Abuja Airport for rehabilitation, which lasted six weeks.
