Ogbanago, UBA staff who returned $10,000 forgotten by customer, now millionaire
After 10 months, the pan-African financial services group, United Bank for Africa (UBA) Plc, has celebrated its staff, Ibrahim Ogbanago, a security man with the Oba Akran branch of the bank for returning $10,000 belonging to a customer who forgot the money in the branch last July. Ogbanago earns less than N2m as annual salary.
His celebration was part of the activities that added colours during the recent UBA CEO Awards Night, an evening, where staff of the bank dumped their usual mien and emerged in their finery.
Shortly after his story was told to the cream of the society in attendance, Governor of Bauchi State, Mohammed Abdullahi Abubakar, and that of Adamawa State, Bindo Jibralla, who were present as well as the deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu showered Mohammed with $5,000, $10,000 and N5m respectively, bringing the total to about N11m.
Ekweremadu went further to announce at the event that apart from the N5m that will be given to him by the Nigerian senate, the integrity of the young man will also be announced at plenary.
Other celebrities at the night include former Governor of Cross-River State and his wife, Mr. and Mrs Donald Duke. Others were the board and management of the UBA Group, including UBA Chairman, Tony Elumelu and wife, Awele; GMD/CEO, Kennedy Uzoka and wife, Lotanna and other key directors of the bank.
There was also presence of board members of UBA subsidiaries across Africa at the dinner.
