Getting best identification model, most frustrating challenge to N5,000 monthly stipend—VP
Fresh indication that the federal government may not have well planned and programmed the highly publicized N5,000 per person monthly welfare stipend for the unemployed has emerged after all.
Thursday, the Vice President, Prof Yemi Osinbajo let the cat out of the bag, saying “government was facing some challenges in implementing the N5,000 per person monthly welfare stipend for the unemployed as there were challenges in finding a suitable approach to identifying the right beneficiaries”.
Analysts were however shocked on the revelation considering that the deal was even an election promise which means that it ought to have been well planned and structured but that was not the case, thus raising fears of poor preparation and intent to dump the programme as soon as possible.
The Vice president who spoke at a media parley organised by the Presidency’s Office of Digital Engagement at his residence in Abuja said “The current World Bank standard isn’t as effective in reaching the five million people we projected and that’s why we’ve only reached one million people.”
Additional details gathered by Business Hilights show that the welfarist scheme had expanded to 10 states.
