Second term hopeful and Governor of Anambra State, Chief Willie Obiano has announced that the implementation of the Anambra State airport project will begin next Tuesday, on April 11.
Giving the cheerful hint in Awka on Wednesday, he said the infrastructure to be located at Umueri in Anambra East Local Government Area, would be one of the best and biggest in Africa.
Though the governor was silent on whether the airport is planned to be international, cargo or local airport, he expressed satisfaction that the project tagged ‘Anambra City Airport Project’, would improve socio-economic activities in the state.
Obiano said “Anambra people should brace themselves up for a whole new world of economic opportunities and possibilities,” stressing that it would create jobs, promote tourism, and encourage investments in power, housing, healthcare and other sectors for the entire state.
“The value chain of a mega project like this will triple the gross domestic product of Anambra State.
Details gathered by our correspondent show that the major partners in the project are the state government through the Anambra State Investment Promotion and Protection Agency, Orient Petroleum and Elite International Investment Limited.
The scheme is coming on a special purpose vehicle to be known as Anambra Airport Infrastructure Company Limited (AAICL).
Industry analysts say on delivery of the scheme, Asaba International airport may be technically squeezed as Delta State had relied on the idea of using Anambra State as the main catchment traffic to locate it along the road for easy access.
