Apprehension is now raging at a sleepy town of Koko, Itsekiri section of Delta State following the discovery of another toxic waste dump in the community.
Similar occurrence had taken place during the early 90s which sparked off serious international diplomatic crisis between Italy and Nigeria.
In a swift response, Koko community, the headquarters of Warri North council, Delta state, has said it would drag anyone linked to the dastard act to court unless they make satisfactory efforts to remedy the situation.
Already, a business concern, Ebenco Nigeria Ltd is being fingered among other collaborators on involvement in the recent alleged dumping of toxic waste in the historical Itsekiri community.
In a statement issued by the leadership of the National Association of Itsekiri Graduates (NAIG) in Warri, and signed by the president, Collins Edema, the group condemned the indiscriminate dumping of toxic waste in Koko and warned of legal action against whoever that is behind the deal.
According to the statement, “Laboratory analysis has shown that the sludge being dumped by Ebenco in Koko is not only carcinogenic but toxic, hence dangerous to both agricultural produce and aquatic life in Koko town.
“We frown at this level of corporate irresponsibly. The company should urgently address this issue, carry out remediation on the affected soil and pay compensation to people whose land have been polluted so as not to face any action from NAIG,” the group said.
