Rising generation upon dwindling power supplies worry Nigerians, industries
Industrialists and households in Nigeria have chided the Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Mr. Babatunde Fashola, saying the regular announcements of the government that power generation has gone up are yet to be marched with realities of regular supplies across the country.
Reactions of consumers with respect to power supply in many parts of the country remain either momentary supplies or once in a week which cannot encourage any meaningful industrial activity.
In their submissions, telling Nigerians that power generation had gone up when nothing is reaching them means fraud and a mere ride on the collective intelligence of Nigerians.
Business Hilights recalls that last week, the minister revealed that power generation in the country had stepped up to 4,000MW in preceding two weeks while inspecting ongoing works at the Aduwawa axis of the Benin-Lokoja Expressway.
It would be recalled that before now and since late last year, power generation had hovered around 3,000MW, a development linked to incessant vandalism of gas pipelines feeding the power plants.
Within last week, government said the quantum of electricity that was sent out and delivered to households and industries across the country for the first time in one year crossed 4,000 megawatts-hour/hour on February 20, 2017.
