FG to build $38m Nigeria/Cameroun Border Bridge at Ekok-Nfu, Cross River
Relying on the prevailing African Development Bank (AfDB) support for improving relationship between Cameroun and Nigeria stemming from the post the International Court of Justice (ICJ) judgment over Bakassi, the Federal Executive Council (FEC), Wednesday approved the construction of a $38 million link bridge between Nigeria and Cameroun at Ekok-Nfu, near Calabar.
Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Mr Babatunde Fashola, told State House Correspondents on Wednesday in Abuja that FEC also approved the resuscitation and completion of the Kaduna Eastern bye pass highway.
Explaining more, the minister said “We presented from the Ministry of Power, Works and Housing a memorandum to construct the Cameroun – Nigeria border link bridge at Ekok-Nfu.
“Part of the link road between Enugu -Abakaliki Highway which is already completed and part of the larger Lagos – Mombassa Highway.
“We also presented a memorandum for the resuscitation and completion of the Kaduna Eastern bye-pass Highway which was started in 2002 and was initially planned to have been completed in three years but 15 years after it remains uncompleted.’’
Fashola disclosed that the Nigeria/Cameroun Bridge will cost 38 million US dollars while its supervision consultancy will cost 1.9 million dollars under the AfDB procurement guidelines.
