For motorists plying Gombe State roads, all is set for the implementation of the speed limiter for commercial vehicles operating in the state as from February 1 by the officers and men of the State’s Command of the Federal Roads Safety Corps (FRSC).

A statement issued Wednesday and signed by Sector Commander, David Mendie, quoted him as explaining that with the expiration of its advisory enforcement that began since October last year and which terminates by January 31, officials of the corps will commence full implementation by February 1.

The Command therefore warned all commercial vehicles operating in the state to comply with the directive as according to the statement, “all commercial vehicles without the speed limiter would be apprehended and booked for Speed Limiter Violation (SLD).”

The statement noted that the directive is in line with the efforts of the corps in the enforcement of speed limiting device in a bid to reduce road traffic accidents with its attendant consequences based on the prescribed regulations 152 (4) of the National Roads Traffic Regulation (NRTR).

Speed limiter had been a controversial policy since its inception following its wide rejection which forced the FRSC to limit it to commuter buses.
