The Governor of Ebonyi State, Chief David Umahi, has vowed that rice production from his state will over run all other local brands before the end of the year considering the volume in investments and land already provided for the production.

Throughout South East, Abakaliki had been famous for rice production and the current government in the state has stepped up structures that will deepen the production for export as soon as possible.

Investigations show further that the government has banned sales of foreign rice in any part of the state in order to encourage consumption of local rice which will spur mass production that will cause glut and eventually export.

Addressing the delegations from the State Ministry of Agriculture, officials of the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), Abakalili Amalgamated Market Traders Association and political stakeholders from Ivo LGA who visited him in Uburu, Umeahi said this is time for the state Ministry of Agriculture and rice farmers to work harder this year to make the state attain greater heights in rice production.

Umahi, according to a statement by his spokesman, Emma Anya, said his government will continue to create wealth for the people and make the International market in the state be like other big markets in the country.
