Fears force FG to think upgrading of Instrument Landing Systems at major airports.
The recent cancellation of the presidential flight to Bauchi traced to poor Instrument Landing Systems (ILS) is currently compelling the Minister of State for Aviation, Senator Hadi Sirika to agree to upgrade the platform in every airport in the country.
Indication emerged Sunday that the minister’s position was due to the complaints by airlines of the disruption of flights by the Harmattan and mainly, the embarrassment of cancelling President Muhammadu Buhari’s flight to Bauchi.
The minister said ILS will be upgraded to ensure that they are working better to minimise the cases of flight disruptions that have featured every harmattan season
Business Hilights recalls that President Muhammadu Buhari’s visit to Bauchi scheduled to take place December 29 was postponed arising from the prevailing weather conditions in the country.
Aviation experts say uncooperative weather which has been the bane of air travel in the current harmattan season, leading to the delay and cancellation of flights, reared its head in Abuja Airport on arrival of president for takeoff but the flight was botched due to poor facilities.
Only earlier last month, the government approved multibillion naira for the repair of Abuja airport runway without any plan for ILS which had been worrying airlines for years before now.
