Senate links SFG’s company to failed contracts at IDP camps, seeks his resignation
The Senate has called for immediate resignation of the Secretary to the Federal Government, Mr. David Babachir over the complicity of his company in the execution of several contracts on the care Nigerians leaving at Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camps nationwide.
According to the upper chambers, the visuals of malnourished and poorly dressed Nigerians in several IDP camps have suggested that not what was budgeted and released to them is getting to them at all.
This development which has lasted for long, prompted the National Assembly to set up an adhoc committee to look at the spending and contracts for IDPs since inception in Nigeria.
Part of the observations of the Committee as announced at the floor of the Senate Wednesday by Senator Sani from Kaduna State include the fact that “Most of the contracts so far awarded by the Executives have no direct bearing on the IDPs as many of them are apparently languishing in hunger, disease, squalor and other deplorable conditions including poor care”.
The report therefore indicted the Secretary of the Federation of corruption, Mr. Babachir, accusing him of breaching the contract terms awarded to his company.
According, other Senators in unison, called for the immediate resignation of the SGF.
Making the call, Senator Isah Musia said “the SFG must resign today and we are not going to give room for any lobbying to take place”.
In the same line of anger, Senator Dino Melaye said “Every lie has an expiring date. The lie of the SFG has expired. There is a clarion call for immediate, immediate resignation of Mr. David Lawal Babachir and after completion of reports, prosecution must follow”.
But in response, the SFG described the lawmakers’ comments as “Absolutely nonsense”.
The presidency is yet to make comments on the development.
