The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Spectranet, leading Internet Services Provider (ISP), Mr. David Venn has reacted to the latest industry data released by the regulator, Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) showing that his group is leading the rest in terms of subscriber base.
NCC data recently showed that whereas Spectranet is cruising on a leading subscribers base of 193, 892, Smile Communication is following closely with156,243 customers.
Currently, Spectranet and Smile Communications are controlling the market with a combined total subscriber base of 350,135.
Additional figures also obtained from NCC show that there are about 37 ISPs delivering services with 927 Point of Presence (PoP) across the country, with Spectranet and Cobranet leading with 555 and 60 PoPs respectively.
In a brief telephone interview weekend, Venn said “Spectranet is the first to deliver true 4G LTE services in Nigeria and will continue to lead the market share with innovative inputs and continuous spread of services in emerging cities of the federation”.
“We are delivering real 4G and our subscribers attest to that.
“As part of our leadership consolidation drive, 4G LTE recently introduced a new promotional offer tagged full speed unlimited gold plan into its range of data plans for subscribers to enjoy.
The new product is expected to extend the company’s lead in ISP services provision as the introduction of the unlimited plan is aimed at meeting the ever growing demand by subscribers for more data to consume as they continue to experience the great service of Spectranet.
According to him, “The unlimited data plan, at a price of N18,000 for a one-month subscription provides users with unlimited upload and download without worries or fear of poor connection”.
Continuing, Spectranet boss said the major essence of his presence in Nigeria was to grow the fortune of the organization further.
Elated Venn also noted that “If you cast your mind back few years ago to previous government days, not many had heard or known of Spetranet, but now, everybody knows of what we do.
“It is a brand that has come up in the last two years. That is one of the changes we have made here since I came. We have pushed the brand forward, making sure we serve as many customers as possible and better too”, he stated.
“Spectranet is a product company. We provide good quality, at-the-right-price. We are not a mobile phone company, we don’t offer phone and voice services, we offer data and internet services, and basic broadband.
“And it is really targeted at the home and offices. We are not talking about the big corporations; we are talking about people’s homes who want broadband services for their families, and also the small and medium sized enterprises. That is our market, what we do.
“We give good quality broadband service. We do that in Abuja, in Lagos, in Ibadan and Port Harcourt at the moment where we managed to launch early this year before the crisis hit in terms of economy.
We also managed to get some equipment in before the economic crises. So now we are in four cities in the country”, he stated further.
According to him, the economy is affecting a lot of things including the telecommunications industry with many of them scampering for breath.
He further stated that with the situation on ground many of the companies are not like to be in existence next year.
“The economy is in a particular condition and we are just trying to survive. Though this period, we are trying to grow and come out a much stronger business wise. I think in the telecommunication industry, there is going to be a number of companies that don’t exist next year, because times are hard.
“If they haven’t been looking out for their customers or don’t have the right revenues, they are not going to be here. But we expect to pick up all that business, and more, and grow our market, get to new areas, and come out stronger. And if you don’t think that way in business, then you shouldn’t be doing it “, Venn said.

ISPs are that companies that provide services for accessing and using the Internet. ISPs may be organised in various forms, such as commercial, community-owned, non-profit, or otherwise privately owned.
The service providers, by the provision of the Nigerian Communications Act, (NCA 2003) are licensed for a period of five years before they are renewed in Nigeria.
