Leading business technology support group, Vodacom Business Nigeria has stepped up its delivery of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) as it built and donated a fully-equipped library to the pupils of SS. Peter & Paul School, Ikate Elegushi. The school is managed by Loving Gaze, a not-for-profit organisation.
Managing director for Vodacom Business Nigeria, Mr. Lanre Kolade said the library was donated to promote a reading culture among the pupils from primary school, stressing that it will also help to prepare them for secondary and tertiary education by enabling them to learn about the world outside their school and their immediate environment.
Details of the donation showed that various books, furniture and multi-media equipment. The company also donated quality backpacks and water bottles to the pupils of SS. Peter & Paul School Ikate Elegushi and St. John School, Ikorodu, Lagos to help the children carry their learning materials and drinking water to school.
Kolade explained that the library donation is part of Vodacom Business Nigeria’s Power to You programme which aims to give schools, especially those in underserved areas, access to the same facilities available to students in major cities or developed schools.
According to him, Vodacom’s doors are always open to schools that want to learn about new technologies that will enhance learning and prepare students for the evolving world. He encouraged the students to use the library to learn about other countries, cultures, music and science. “By reading books you become more knowledgeable, this makes you a more valuable person in the future” he said.
In his goodwill message, the General Manager of Loving Gaze, Mrs Barbara Pepoli, who received the donations on behalf of the school, expressed her gratitude to Vodacom and assured the company that the library would be used to improve the reading proficiency of their pupils.
