Managing director of Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Mr. Nsima Ekpere has raised alarm saying “With about N1.2 trillion of the contingent liabilities on its balance sheet, NDDC needs to find ways to free funds for urgent development projects and programmes”.

Nsima who decried the over $40billion received by the oil communities in the past 10 years was frittered away, NDDC must now find a way around the huge debt owed by the past board while  carrying out  projects  to meet the aspirations of the people.

He expressed much anger over the observation that fund accruing to the commission in the past has “little evidence to show for them”.

Nsima who delivered a paper on ‘Dangerous Beasts and How to Tame Them: The 4-R Strategy’, at a recent NDDC three-day retreat at Onne, Rivers State however, called for collaboration among stakeholders to achieve sustainable development in the Niger Delta.

He expressed disappointment over the failure of past managers to implement the Niger Delta Master Plan, which originally required $50bn over a 15-year period, even though past management received 80percent ($40bn) of the budget.
