Transaction advisers for national carrier, others to be unveiled today, Thursday
After more than three years of news breaking by the Minister of Transportation Hon Rotimi Amaechi and Minister of State for Aviation, Capt. Hadi Sirika that government will refloat a national aviation carrier, aside any unforeseen circumstance, government will today, Thursday make public, the transaction adviser.
The advisers for aviation related enterprises will be made public by the Minister of State for Aviation, Hadi Sirika, at the 4th Aviation Stakeholders’ Forum, today.
The Federal Government had approved the appointment of transaction advisers for the proposed national carrier and concession of the nation’s airports in May last year.
The decision was reached at a meeting of the Federal Executive Council presided over by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo.
It would be recalled that the transaction advisers for the establishment of a national carrier and the concession of the country’s four major international airports had been in the waiting for too long.
Other enterprises and establishment whose transaction advisers will be named today include setting up of maintenance, repair and overhaul centres; development of cargo/agro allied terminals; establishment of an aviation leasing company; and development of aerotropolis or airport cities.
Deputy Director, Public Affairs at the aviation arm of the ministry, James Odaudu, said the 4th Aviation Stakeholders’ forum would enable Sirika to provide updates on developments within the sector.
According to the minister of State, “Since most of the programmes and projects were supposed to be on Public-Private Partnership basis, the government was guided by the Infrastructure Concession Regulatory Commission’s (ICRC) regulations”.
“One of the processes was to appoint transaction advisers, who would give advisory services, kick-start and lead the process.
“We took the memo for the appointment of those transaction advisers to carry out the advisory services on the establishment of a national carrier,” Sirika averred.
