Serving as a substantive Comptroller General of Customs for more than one year without a constituted Board for the direction of affairs at the money spinning federal agency, Nigerian Customs Service (NCS), has captured the anger of several stakeholders in the industry.

Mr. Lucky Amiwero, one of the most outspoken stakeholders has called on the Minister of Finance, Mrs. Kemi Adeosun, to constitute the Board of the NCS as a way of addressing the shortfall in policy direction and implementation.

He said the absence of the board which by law and the Act establishing the agency, is designed to serve as a guiding touch light for Hameed Ali, can be said to be the key reason behind some of the negative acts and policies coming from the former military Administrator of Kaduna State.

In an SOS letter addressed to President Muhammadu Buhari this week and copied to Business Hilights, Amiwero said “We wish to bring to the attention of His Excellency, President Muhammadu Buhari, the need to constitute the Nigeria Customs Service board to address the shortfall in fiscal policy direction that has generated controversy due to lack of properly constituted board to direct the fiscal policy implementation as contained in the Customs and Excise Management Act C 45 of 2004.

In his submission, he argued that on the effective constitution of a substantive board made up of capable hands with deep knowledge of Customs workings, a lot of the negative issues surrounding the Service will become a thing of the past as Ali alone will no more betaking decisions that are always not sacrosanct.

He wondered why a government that is clamouring for Changing the old ways of doing thing can allow the money spinning departments to be run without a functional board for more than one full year.
