At a time several industry experts are lamenting the spate of outsourcing and casualisation in the oil and gas sector of the economy, the Lagos Zonal Chairman of Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG), Mr. Tayo Aboyeji has raised another shocking alarm.

He said with the way and manner many oil companies are deploying robotic technology and allied infrastructure, more professionals in the industry will lose their jobs in months and years to come in Nigeria.

He averred that “Our members are losing their jobs on daily basis due to the poor economic condition of the country. Technology is also taking its tows on members as some machines are now replacing human beings in oil and gas industry.

“These are great concerns for us in the union and I believe that the newly elected executive council will take the challenges and manage the situation better to the happiness of all members,” Aboyeji said.

In an interview during the election of the new national chairman of NUPENG, zonal Chairman urged the new executives led by Comrade William Akporeha to take the union to next level by protecting the rights and welfare of members from time to time.
