States’ debt profile jumps to N2.9trn, Lagos, Delta, Akwa Ibom lead. Anambra lowest

Details form the Debt Management Office (DMO) has shown that as at December 31, 2016, the total domestic debt profile of the 36 states of the federation stood at N2.958 trillion

Lagos State is leading the pack with about 10.5 per cent of the total debt which is N311.755 billion, followed by Delta State which has a domestic debt profile of N241.231 billion.

Whereas the local debt profile of Akwa Ibom State stood at N155.43 billion as at June 31, 2016, Anambra State had the least debt profile with N3.993 billion followed by Yobe state which had a local debt of N13.58 billion as at December 31, 2016.

Ogun State debt was N75.92 billion as at December 2015, while Rivers State local debt figure was N142.424 billion as at June 2016.

Debt profiles of Ogun, Rivers, Jigawa, Katsina and Akwa Ibom States were however not available as at December 2016.

Jigawa and Katsina States debt figures were N19.005 billion and N21.449 billion respectively as at March 2016.
