Even though community members of Kula and Belema oil communities are still playing hostage to Shell facility in their domain in Rivers State since last week, the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) has said it is working closely with international oil companies (IOCs) to introduce world class structured security system in strategic installations to tame incidences of sabotage and facility occupation.
General Manager, Group Security Department at NNPC, Mr. Sam Otoboeze, who disclosed this in an interview in Abuja, noted that the move would complement the Federal Government’s efforts in security operations.
According to him, the emerging new technology driven security machinery was tailored at professionally and effectively securing the oil and gas environment in line with global best practices.
The synergy with the international oil companies and other security agencies would enable the government to make appreciable revenue from oil and gas industry to fund its annual budget.
Already, NNPC recently rolled out a community security engagement mechanism where members of oil bearing communities were engaged to secure facilities within their domain, stressing that the strategy was paying off with a drastic drop in oil and gas facility breaches.
On the recent upsurge in scam oil crude mails and recruitment scandals, Otoboeze decried the development and assured that systems are now in place as a special security desk in collaboration with security agencies to crack down on the miscreants have assumed duties.
