Senator Owan-Enoh concludes 3rd edition of ICT training for 198 constituency youths

Senator Owan-Enoh, Upper Chamber lawmaker representing Cross River Central Senatorial District in the National Assembly, has concluded the training of 198 youths in his constituency on Information and Communication Technology (ICT) skills.

The latest which is the third in series came under the theme: “Cross River Central Youths: Tapping into the World of the Internet for Self-Employment,” for Cross River Central Youths.

Explaining why he undertook the gesture, the lawmaker said ICT was a veritable sub-sector for employment generation especially among the youths in the current world.

The Chairman Senate Committee on Finance, said the growing trend in ICT application in every sphere of life makes it important for youths to acquire ICT skills and be productively engaged.

According to him, “This is the third edition of this programme since I was elected into the senate in 2015. The hallmark of representation is to identify the grey areas of engaging your constituents in productive ventures.”

Details from the programme show that 66 youths out of the 198 would get customized laptops to help them grow their budding small businesses while the remaining 132 youths would be compensated as soon as possible.

Owan-Enoh noted further that “An individual who is educated with ICT skills has the hope of a better future and in the long run will also contribute meaningfully to the economy. We need a knowledge based society to make our economy strong and sustainable”.

He said the training would not only inculcate ICT knowledge in the youths but would also make them self-reliant and job creators.

In an interview, the main resource person and founder of bulk Short Message Service (SMS) in Nigeria, Mr. Leke Ojikutu charged the youths to develop the mind-set of creating wealth though ICT and from there become employers.
