Strong indication emerged Tuesday that the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) is set to announce sanctions for some government agencies and private airport operators over huge indebtedness to the agency following the expiration of given 30 day notice.
Some of the debtors according to sources include operators of state and private airports like Bauchi Airport, Osubi Airstrip, Warri and Gombe Airports.
Since this year, there had been rising pressure on several aviation agencies to recover debts being owed by their clients.
Business Hilights recalls that FAAN had on October 22 gave a one-month notice to the affected agencies of government and operators to settle their debt.
The one month notice elapsed last week, but inside source confided in our correspondent that the next move now will be to rollout sanctions so as to force the debtors to do the needful.
The source hinted that among the preliminary sanctions may include withdrawal of its security personnel from the affected organizations at the airports.
According to the notice, “In view of the above, the Authority hereby notifies private airport operators that the services of our Aviation Security and Airport Fire and Rescue personnel will no longer be available for the operations of their airports with effect from Wednesday 21st November, 2018 as the Authority can no longer keep these personnel at the airports working without payment.”
Some of the affected airports reached on phone avoided comments on the matter.
