First test for the resilience of Nigerian youths calling on President Muhammadu Buhari to either resume work as elected President of federal Republic of Nigeria or resign and go home came on Tuesday as protesters were fired teargas by the Police but they remained unperturbed.
The coalition of civil society groups, led by popular musician and ‘Area Fada’, Charles Oputa, popularly called Charlie Boy began from Monday to gather daily at Fountain Square near the Transcorp Hilton, Abuja to drive home their calls on authorities.
However, there were minimal skirmishes on Tuesday as Police attempted to disperse them with water spray and teargas canister fired at them.
One person was said to be injured and was taken to the hospital by the protesters.
In his terse address, one of the conveners, Charlie Boy said “Simply, all we ask is let the president either resume work or resign. We are tired of waiting”
“Our mumu don do,” he noted.
It would be recalled President Buhari had travelled to London since May, 7, 2017. Today, Wednesday, August 9, 2017 will make it 96 days out of office even though he complied with the constitutional provision of transmitting power, vide the National Assembly to the Acting president, Yemi Osinbajo.
