Professor Johnbull, sponsored by telecommunications giant, Globacom, this week frowns at the incidence of false information peddling saying that it is an ill wind that blows no one any good.
The episode entitled Story People is the last in Season 5 of the soar away situation comedy which shows at 8.30 p.m. on Tuesday on NTA Network, NTA International on DSTV Channel 251 and NTA on StarTimes with repeat broadcasts on same stations on Friday.
Ikoku, played by Nollywood actor, Browny Igboewu who is featuring in the sitcom for the first time acts the role of a compulsive liar. His stock in trade is tale telling and acute name dropping. He claims to know virtually all the noble and the affluent in the society, including presidents of foreign nations.
Mai Doya (Funky Mallam) and Olaniyi (Yomi Fash-Lanso) fall victim of this malady just as Ikoku succeeds in convincing the philanderer, Flash (Stephen Odimgbe) that he could pass his examinations without studying once he drinks a substance that will make ”his brain become sharp”.
Viewers will also find out how Ikoku’s tale spinning makes Olaniyi to close his thriving restaurant; if there is indeed a ‘goat-killing licence’ for pepper soup joint owners or if there is a government legislation against beer consumption owing to health concerns.
While admonishing the general public to shun gullibility which is the basic ingredient that encourages tale bearing, Professor Johnbull (Kanayo O. Kanayo) in his usual didactic countenance calls for public sympathy for “compulsive prevaricators” like Ikoku, whom he describes as a “psychopath”.
